The 2021 “Émergence en recherche” call for projects from IdEx Université de Paris is funding the TARMAC project—“Towards new treatments against Age-Related Macular
Degeneration”—conducted in collaboration between UTCBS and CNRS UMR 8038 CiTCoM (43,500 euros – 2021–23).
The advanced stage of the exudative form of AMD affects approximately 7% of people over the age of 75, and a more than 15% increase in prevalence is anticipated over the next 20 years. AMD leads to blindness within a few years. It is characterized by angiogenesis driven by the growth factors VEGF-A and PlGF, and by severe inflammation, which induce a process of neovascularization. The only treatment consists of intravitreal anti-VEGF therapies that delay progression to blindness, but to which 30% of patients are unresponsive, and which do not target inflammatory processes. To target both inflammation and angiogenesis, the CiTCoM laboratory (Prof. L. Demange) is synthesizing CXCR1/CXCR2 receptor antagonists with dual anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic potential, and nanoformulations are being developed by UTCBS to enable these compounds—which have very low bioavailability—to overcome ophthalmic biological barriers, reach the targeted structures, and treat AMD.

DRIM – BioConvergence for Health – BioCovS
The DIM BioConvergence for Health (BioConvS) aims to structure a territory of excellence, an international reference in bioengineering, bioproduction and biotherapy. BioConvS will focus in particular on synthetic biology and genetic, (sub)cellular and microbiota-based biotherapies. The creation of BioConvS will support the synergy, interdisciplinarity and innovation potential of these interfaces in order to overcome technological barriers and build scientific levers for disruptive innovation.

The aim of this project is to validate in mouse models of Parkinson disease a therapeutic peptide for treatment of this disease as well as to stablish a dose-dependent effect of the peptid
L’objectif de ce projet est de valider, dans des modèles murins de la maladie de Parkinson, un peptide thérapeutique pour le traitement de cette maladie, ainsi que d’établir un effet dose-dépendant du peptide.

Funding for the ECO-DETOX project – ElectroChemical Oxidation moDEl to assess the TOXicity of environmental furans (2024–2026)
In collaboration with CNRS UMR 8038 – CITCOM, this project aims to evaluate the effect of molecules derived from natural products on liver metabolism, specifically by studying the toxicity and effects of natural furan compounds on the liver metabolism of HepaRG cells.
