About us
The Unit of Chemical and Biological Technologies for Health (UTCBS) is a mixed interdisciplinary research unit supported by the University of Paris, Inserm and CNRS, directed by Dr. Nathalie MIGNET, Research Director at CNRS.
The members of the UTCBS : Unité des Technologies Chimiques et Biologiques pour la Santé (Unit of Chemical and Biological Technologies for Health), are interested in innovative technologies for Health, in particular the development of new pharmaceutical formulations of biomedicines, such as siRNA, DNA, antibodies, cytokines, but also the research of new diagnostic agents and biomarkers in cancer and hepatic fibrosis. These approaches are treated in a multidisciplinary way with the development of innovative approaches for the analytical and physicochemical characterization of these complex molecules, but also by studying the mechanism of action of these molecules in cell biology and immunology. Researchers are evaluating how these nano- and biotherapies can modulate gene expression or activate certain immune pathways to propose new therapeutic approaches.
Among their work, they have been able to design a “safe” mini-plasmid that is currently being tested in humans for various pathologies, as well as siRNA formulations that could be administered orally. They were able to decipher the role of erythropoietin on immune cells. Most recently, they have shown that combining surgery of liver metastases with stimulation of the immune system by local delivery of immunostimulators inhibits distant metastasis.
The unit is housed in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical and Biological Sciences of the Université Paris Cité.

The ProteRNA project, Success Story of the month in the SATT network
This project aims to offer RNA vaccines that can be administered orally. It is based on a method of manufacturing tablets containing nucleic acid vectors, which can be stored at room temperature.
